UK Government & Creative Industries publish new sector vision to drive growth, build talent, and develop skills

The importance of the UK creative industries sector to the health and wellbeing of the UK economy is recognised by all political parties. So it was good to see the UK government and the creative sector coming together recently to publish a dynamic vision for further growth in this vibrant sector.

Endorsed by the Department for Culture Media and Sport, and foreworded by the Prime Minister, this vision was published in June 2023. It sets out the impressive results already achieved by UK creative businesses, employing 2.3 million people, and generating £108bn for the UK economy. In recent years the sector has also been growing at 1.5x the rate of the rest of the economy.

For these reasons, the creative sector is identified as one of 5 priority sectors in UK development plans. The Vision goes on to set ambitious targets for further expansion, aiming to create 1 million extra jobs, and £50bn in new income by 2030. It also recognises the very positive contribution made by creative companies to export growth, and it sets a target of £1trillion to be delivered by the mid 2030s.

In support of these objectives, the Vision outlines a series of tax breaks, incentives, start-up funds and training packages to assist companies in driving further growth. AllCreative is pleased to see the government and industry working together on this programme, and would like to see more done to promote creative subjects in both schools and universities. We also hope that this plan continues to receive government and industry support, whatever the outcome of the forthcoming election.
